DARIA POLATIN is a playwright, TV writer, and screenwriter, who also composes music and writes fiction. As a playwright, Daria was a 2007 Wasserstein Prize nominee, and her play EGGS IN A BASKET recently had a workshop which was directed by Hal Brooks. The play was also in the 2007 Princess Grace Award final round and a 2007 Cherry Lane Mentor Project nominee. Daria has had various readings and workshops of other full-length plays, including SKYE BLUE (workshopped in Electric Pear Productions’ The Outlet), and HERE OR NOW, which had a reading at New York Theater Workshop starring Kathleen Chalfant. A workshop of her one-act NINJA: THE MUSICAL premiered at Theatre Row, to which Daria wrote the book, music and lyrics, and now is being developed into a full-length with composer Joe Iconis. Daria’s one-act D.C. premiered as part of Youngblood’s THICKER THAN WATER Festival at Ensemble Studio Theatre starring Gideon Glick (SPRING AWAKENING). A FAIR AFFAIR played at the Culture Project and at the Kennedy Center, where it received an award for Best One-Act in the American College Theatre Festival. Her short play THE COMPANY KEPT was a part of the Naked Angels Lab SIN, and abroad her one-act EDEN-BORE-OH! premiered in London. In television, Daria wrote the original pilot "Spliced" for The N Network and has developed work with NBC and Oxygen. Daria was commissioned to write a romantic comedy feature screenplay HAPPEN TO KNOW for On The Leesh Productions, is writing an UNTITLED FEATURE COMEDY with actor Noah Bean, and continues to consult and script-doctor other screenplays. Daria attended London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Boston University (B.F.A.), and Columbia University (M.F.A). She was a playwright in The Royal Court Theatre residency in New York, and is a member of Youngblood, A.S.C.A.P. and S.A.G. Daria has received awards from The Kennedy Center/A.C.T.F., Armenian International Women’s Association, Bette Davis Foundation, and The Leopold Schepp Foundation. Daria continues to do freelance work on young adult novels with Alloy Entertainment. |
